A Complete Down-to-the-Studs Condo Transformation
When Doug and his family purchased their 33-year-old Northlands condo in Whistler, they initially planned to update the kitchen and bathrooms. After meeting with Whistler Contracting, the vision quickly expanded into a complete down-to-the-studs renovation that would completely transform how the home looked, functioned and felt.
Working together, we reimagined the entire 1,500-square-foot condo, creating a modern mountain home with improved flow, custom storage and beautifully crafted finishes designed for family life and entertaining.
The Challenge
Like many older Whistler condominiums, the original layout no longer suited modern living.
The oversized kitchen island dominated the main living area, leaving limited cabinet storage and creating awkward traffic flow. The kitchen, dining and living spaces felt closed off, making the home less enjoyable for entertaining. Two of the three bathrooms were undersized, and valuable square footage throughout the condo wasn’t being used efficiently.
Our clients wanted to create a home that could comfortably accommodate their family of five while providing enough flexibility for multiple families to stay together during ski vacations.
Our Renovation Solution
Rather than simply replacing finishes, Whistler Contracting completed a full down-to-the-studs renovation that allowed us to redesign the layout from the inside out.

Renovating From Overseas
One unique challenge was that the homeowners lived overseas throughout construction.
Because they couldn’t visit the site regularly, communication became one of the most important parts of the project.
Whistler Contracting provided detailed weekly video updates, regular progress reports and ongoing discussions whenever unexpected conditions or design decisions arose. This allowed the owners to remain fully informed and confident throughout every stage of the renovation.
Managing the Construction Process
Every renovation uncovers surprises, particularly in older Whistler buildings.
While permitting and municipal inspection scheduling created occasional delays, careful planning and proactive communication kept the project moving forward. Material lead times and supply chain issues were also discussed well before construction began so expectations remained clear throughout the build.
Whenever design refinements or homeowner requests arose, our team responded quickly with practical recommendations and efficient execution.
The Finished Result
The completed renovation exceeded the homeowners’ expectations.
The finished condo closely matched the original 3D design concepts, creating a seamless transition from vision to reality. More importantly, the home now functions dramatically better for everyday living and entertaining.
